LEMA Construction announced today that it has been selected by the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority to serve as Construction Manager for the the Deputy John Kotfila, Jr. Memorial Dog Park in Tampa, FL. Designed by Wannemacher Jensen Architects of St. Petersburg, the new park will rejuvenate roughly 20,000 square feet of space under the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway in downtown Tampa to memorialize Deputy Kotfila, who tragically lost his life in March of 2016.
The new dog park will have plenty of room for dogs large and small to stretch their legs. The space will use innovative K9Grass, an artificial turf designed with pets in mind. Unlike generic artificial grass, K9Grass is more realistic and won’t cut or damage the paws of smaller dog breeds. Other innovative elements include water fountains with built-in pet bowls, large bench-style seating throughout the park, and bench swings attached to the underside of the overpass.
At the entrance to the park, a memorial garden and monument will stand as a tribute to the fallen hero. It will stand as a solemn reminder of Deputy Kotfila’s bravery and sacrifice.
LEMA Construction is proud to have been chosen for this project, and are honored to do our part in preserving Deputy Kotfila’s memory.
